Lewis Mitchell is a lecturer in applied mathematics in the School of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Adelaide. He holds a PhD from the University of Sydney on data assimilation methods, and was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Vermont, working on data science and complex systems problems. His interests include the fusion of large, unstructured, open data sources with mathematical models for better prediction of disease outbreaks, as well as understanding the complex interactions between media, social dynamics, and disease transmission.
